Company certification in accordance to EN 1090

Integral parts of metallic structures according to European laws belong to construction products. Supporting elements of buildings and engineering structures must meet the main requirements of the European Regulation 305/2011:
  • Mechanical resistance and stability
  • Fire safety
  • Hygiene, health and the environment
  • Occupancy safety
  • Protection against noise
  • Energy savings.
For the constituent parts, the most important are mechanical resistance and stability. The manufacturer must, for every constituent part that he gives into usage, to prove it meets the indicated requirements. In Slovenia, the production of metal constructions is regulated by the Law of construction products (ZGPro).  For the construction products, among which are the constituent parts of metal constructions, it is necessary to carry out the process of determining conformity. Every product that appears on the market or is incorporated into an object, it must have a certificate or a statement confirming that the product complies with the requirements set out in the technical specifications. For constituent parts made out of metal the system of determining conformity labeled with 2+ initial standard evaluation and examination is used to determine the essential characteristics of products and introduce the control of production at the facility.

Requirements for production and the criteria for assessing the production of constituent parts of metal structures are located in the following technical specifications:

  • EN 1090-1. Execution of steel and aluminum structures – Part 1: Requirements for conformity assessment of structural components
  • EN 1090-2. Execution of steel and aluminum structures – Part 2: Technical requirements for steel structures
  • EN 1090-3; Execution of steel and aluminum structures – Part 3: Technical requirements for aluminum structures
  • EN ISO 3834-1 do 6: Requirements for quality in welding of metallic material with fusion
In addition to these standards in the production of metal constructions it is necessary to take into account the standards in the field of corrosion protection, mechanical joining, non-destructive testing and design. Manufacturer who wishes to procure constituent parts of metal constructions on the European market, has to before that to acquire from the named body (NB) the certificate of conformity for control of production at the facility (FPC). Certification of the internal production control implements the Institute of Welding as named body for construction products and in its extent has the area of metal construction in accordance with EN 1090-1.
